Research Paper
Chris Kyle’s American Dream
Chris Kyle became a Navy SEAL and he is now the most lethal sniper in U.S. history. Chris is the ultimate fighter and SEAL warrior that has ever been part of the military. But first were going to talk about how this all came together. Starting at the beginning of Chris Kyle’s life, he grew up in north central Texas with his brother and his mom and dad. Chris moved around a couple of different times growing up but always managed. His dad was in phone sales but also owned his own ranch that Chris and his dad would work on. Growing up Chris loved hunting, shooting big guns and did some fishing sometimes. Chris would ride horses on his father’s ranch and decided that the idea of being a cowboy was rather enjoyable. He also found himself in tons of fights growing up. Although Chris didn’t start any of them he would just end them. His dad told him if he started any fights then he would get a “whuppin.” His dad was a very religious man as well as his mom and they both believed in the Christian faith. Chris grew up feeling the same way and to this day he still does. His family was never poor but they weren’t rich either. Chris was in the middle class range of people in America. When he was in high school Chris had his own little cowboy clique that he would hang around with. Chris played football and baseball but his most favorite thing to do was being a cowboy.
Chris started riding bulls and became part of rodeos in his area. He did this for quite awhile and he also worked on a ranch with a man named David. Chris worked with David on and off for awhile and during this period Chris was in enrolled in college. Chris decided college was not for him and he dropped out after about two years. When Chris’s rodeo career eventually died down he found himself realizing that what he really wanted to do was become part of the U.S. army. Chris at the beginning wanted to be a marine and when he went to the strip mall where you could sign up to part of whatever branch you qualified for the marine recruiter was on brake. The army talked with Chris about what they had to offer and told him he could be a Ranger which is one of the SF of army. Chris liked the idea of the things Rangers could do and then a Navy recruiter called Chris in. He didn’t want to really be in the Navy but he thought why not here what they have to say. The man told him about SEAL’s and all the things they do. Chris was immediately interested. The marines said they would not take him originally because of his metal that he had in his arm that he got during a rodeo accident.
So one day Chris was working with his old ranch employer, and he got a call asking if he still wanted to be a SEAL. Chris’s response was a definite yes. Chris got sent to pre training facility before the real thing. He got in shape for a couple of months, getting ready for BUD’s which lied around the corner. During BUD’s about 80% of the people who get in, drop out before even hell week. This training wasn’t developed for the faint of heart. Instructors beat you down and then come back and beat you down again. In hell week, men constantly do drills and work out for 5 days straight and only get three to four hours of sleep in that five day period. Only the toughest go into BUD’s and come back out saying they made it. Chris Kyle is one of those tough men that do what they got to do and have the mindset that they can do whatever they want. Chris graduated BUD’s and then went in more depth on what it is to really be a SEAL. This type of training lasted almost a year. And then Chris got to move into his platoon. Chris went to sniper school where he learned things he never knew and later on he almost failed the course. Chris talks about how the course was more than difficult, and dropping out seemed like a good idea, but he didn’t. Later on Chris was at a bar with some of his buddies and he met a woman named Taya, which later on turns out to be the love of his life.
Short after their first meet Chris and Taya got married. Taya realized Chris was a SEAL and she began to wonder what the outcome of the marriage would be. One night while Chris was sleeping he got woken up by the telephone. It was one of his SEAL buddies that called him to come down to base ASAP because the twin towers were hit. Chris rushed out of bed leaving Taya there watching the live footage on television. Chris reported to base and later on got sent off to the Middle East to start taking on insurgents. Chris became a killing machine in Fallujah, Which is also where Chris made his longest kill at 2,100 yards. He would visit back home for a couple of weeks and would head back to do his job as a SEAL. The next time Chris came home Taya was pregnant. When she gave birth Chris was there but had to leave shortly after. Chris left a lot of burden on his wife by going of f to fight while his wife raised their kid alone. At some point in Chris’s career he lost two of his dearest friends, Ryan Job and Mark Lee. The deaths of his friends forever troubled Chris and to this day he wishes he could see them again.
Later on Taya was pregnant with her second child. Though Taya pleaded with Chris to give up his duty as a SEAL, he did not think at the time that it was in his best interest to stop doing what he loved to do. When Taya finally almost left Chris with their two kids, he realized that he had to quit and be a father to his kids and be a husband to his wife. If Chris could be a SEAL again without ruining his marriage, he would do it in a heartbeat. But where Chris Kyle’s heart truly lies now, is with his family.
